Biography
Iqbal Azeem was born on 8th July, 1913 in Meerut, though his ancestral place was Ambehta in Saharanpur District. He passed his B.A. from Lucknow University in 1934 and M.A. from Agra University in 1943. He also passed Examinations in Hindi and Bangla languages. He was research scholar at Dhaka University during 1951-52.
Iqbal Azeem did teaching job in Government colleges of U.P. from March 1939 to July 1950. In 1950 he moved to the then East Pakistan. There he was Professor and Head of Urdu Department in Govt. Degree College, Dhaka and Chatgaon from 1951 to 1970. He suffered vision loss and moved to live with his relatives in Karachi in 1970 and settled there.
He was one of the great poets of Urdu. His two collections of poems are “Mizrab” and “Lab-Kusha”. His other collection “Kab-e-Qausain” is the collection of Naats. He also wrote “Mashraqi Bengal Mein Urdu”, a critic on evolution of Urdu language in Bengal. His collection “Deewan-e-Hakim Naatiq” has also been published.
